Biking can be pleasant for everyone! (Bicyclists, cars, pedestrians: everyone!)
Right now bicyclists are trapped between two worlds: that of pedestrians and that of cars.
When driving and stuck behind a bicyclist, you shout at the bicyclist, “Get off the road! Use the sidewalk!” They are two slow for traffic. They are human powered.
When walking and a bicyclist whizzes by, you shout at the bicyclist, “Use the road! This is the sideWALK, for walking!” The cyclist is on two wheels. Going way faster than the casual pedestrian. The cyclist is sweaty smelly and the bike is greasy, the same offense as a car.
But where then is the bicyclist supposed to go? Maybe they need their own space. That’s what some cities are doing. Check out this article from UTNE Reader. Bike Friendly Cities
