Who rules who?

Daniel Kemmis has observed that if the inhabitants of an alien spaceship were to view out cities from an aerial perspective, they would probably come to the conclusion that the sentient and relational beings in our culture are the cars, because everything is designed to facilitate the smooth operation of, and relationships between, our cars. Human beings, if noticed at all, would be thought of as the servants of these greater beings.
