A monthly meet up to eat delicious noodles and discuss issues of urban planning in LA.

The blog here serves as an archive for articles, photos, blog posts, and reviews of books, that we might discuss at the next meeting.

You’re welcome to join us for discussion even if only to ask “what is new urbanism?”

The Noodles & New Urbanism Book Group was founded by Josh Paget and Joel Karahadian.  Neither of these guys has any training or education in urban planning.

The two had been a part of another book group and read Geography of Nowhere by James Howard Kunstler.

Josh and Joel were inspired, but the rest of the book group… wanted to move on.

So the two started their own group and kept reading even more books on urban planning.

Eventually they got so inspired by visions of neighborhood revitalization that they wanted to participate.  They couldn’t be the planners or designers, but they could show off the good stuff and help educate the public on why some places are better than others.

They created the New Urbanism Film Festival.   Hop over to that site for the rest of that story.

  1. Hey I found this blog just through google and I love it. I currently involved in a new urbanism project in Riverside, CA and we have a Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/WalkRiverside you can check out 😀

For the project we are studying two neighborhoods in the Riverside area, Arlington and Ramona, in attempts to improve walkability and neighborhood safety.

This blog is a great compilation of information and photos! Great job!
